I’ve finally managed to take a look at the server I’m setting up, and honestly? I’ve put a surprising amount of work into it. At the same time I realize I’ve barely scratched the surface—setting up bots and channels is the easy part. With all the planned lore I still need to write, well, no wonder I’ve felt overwhelmed. Still, most of the related images have already been modified accordingly and listed with their appropriate copyrights, so writing should be the focus. Easier said than done, eh?
Some additional work went into replacing MEE6 with Dyno and reworking the necessary custom commands, welcome messages, and auto moderation I’d already set up. I didn’t even remember I had put an extra spin into selecting one’s pronouns through message reactions: a t-rex for he/him, crocodile for she/her, and a dragon for they/them. I can only hope they bring everyone else as much joy as they do to me, since using the plain old male, female, and transgender symbols doesn’t really include all the identities I would like them to. On the same note, I got rid of time zone and region roles, since there probably won’t be a need for them anyway and they clutter up the list of roles. Finally, there isn’t much I can do with the XP bot, not without some members to actually test the speed it gives levels.
Then there’s the question of private channels. I’m not too keen on adding another bot just for the sake of accumulating some type of currency and having members “buy” them, but if the server gets busy and people start asking for an excess of channels, I might have to come up with some kind of a plan. At least it won’t be a problem until much later, so I’ll have plenty of time to figure out what I want to do. Maybe they’ll unlock with levels, too—except that would require yet another layer of manual labour for the staff. Not that automating the buying process would take much off it…
Anyway, that’s how I spent today: going over what I’ve already done and reminding myself of the work already put into bringing the server to life. I might just be able to finish it this year… Or the next. It’s not like I’m in any kind of a rush.
See you again, dudes and dudettes. And remember: be fabulous, be kind, and be safe.
